Georges Descombes is a name that resonates loudly in Beaujolais, sitting alongside the well-known and talented producers of the 'Gang of Four' that are Marcel Lapierre, Jean Foillard, Jean-Paul Thevenet and Guy Breton. Together, they elevated the status of the region's wines to the level of fine and collectable ones. Georges took over the estate in 1998 from his father. He actioned sudden changes in the vineyards and the winery: organic practices without certification, low-intervention winemaking and, amongst anything, a desire to produce terroir-driven wines. The estate now owns 15,5 hectares of vineyards spread between the top Crus of Beaujolais: 7,5 ha in Morgon, 3,5 ha in Brouilly, 2 ha in Reignie, 0,5 ha in Chiroubles and 2,5 ha within Beaujolais-Villages appellation. The 2019 Brouilly was hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts and went through semi-carbonic maceration. No oak for this Cuvee.
