The latest from Brower, sounding perhaps inspired by the more pop side of bands like The Who, The Kinks, Donovan...and perhaps especially the post-Beatles world of the 1970s with bands and artists like T-Rex, Bowie, Bay City Rollers, and Badfinger from the UK, and American acts like Tommy James, Partridge Family, Bread, Beach Boys, Starz (maybe early Kiss would be more accurate and direct...but enuff about Kiss, blast some Starz)...maybe the solo work of Lou Reed, Lennon, and McCartney. (I know that's too many names, but what can I say.) -- winchFlour by Brower FLOUR is the full-course follow-up to Brower’s debut album. Sure, there’s been tasty snacks and treats to sustain folks along the way: several singles worth, and a “LIVE” ALBUM. But this is the fresh new long-player platter you’ve hungered for.The recording project spanned several years due to touring, gigging, and rehearsing with the myriad of bands that form the Brower Cinematic Universe (including the live band, Brower; plus Josephine Network, Nancy, Metalleg, and The Wand-ers), not to mention working the many day-jobs it requires to barely sustain life in NYC. FLOUR is benefited by this kind of “slow” practice, where time lends itself to exploration. One gets a sense of Brower’s freedom to stretch out and try new things, new instrumentation, and take a deeper dive into the songwriting. In Brower’s kitchen, his recipe for FLOUR was created, tasted, tested, reworked, revisited, and rebuilt—from scratch—to the delight of the most choosy of rock ‘n’ roll gourmands and punk rock bon vivants.
