Bruce Springsteen, Malibu CA, 1991. Most people wouldn’t even know that this photo is of Bruce, but you can still feel the guitar telling its own story. Bruce was obviously the focus of this shoot, but there was a moment when I went to move his guitar, and he grabbed it from me. It wasn’t like he was keeping me from touching it, but you could feel the connection he had to this guitar. It was always with him. When he picked it up I saw that the back was all carved out from it rubbing against his belt buckle all those hours on stage, and the significance of that guitar just struck me in such a way, and that’s when I came in close for this shot. I still get the willies just thinking about the feeling in the room when he grabbed it.
