5" x 5"Photo Collage with resin on wood block”I have spent the last few years collecting trash found on the streets in my neighbourhood, along with recycled magazines. Inspired by my love of fashion, I paired the two together to create a whimsical new body of work that I’ve titled TRASHION COURTURE. I believe “trashion,” be it vegetable waste from a compost collection, or plastic from a candy bar wrapper, is an art form of today. It literally stops me in the street and puts a smile on my face, while at the same time, horrifies me at the shear amount of waste we create and carelessly discard. Collecting these pieces of trash and magazines, re-using them and adding new life to them with my lens has sparked my creativity, which admittedly was somewhat dulled due to the pandemic, and has awakened a new way of seeing aesthetically, but opened my eyes to the environmental impact of consumerism.”
