Mature fish need room, strong filtration, and tank mates chosen for adult size rather than juvenile size. Physical Characteristics Size: 9-12 inches. Coloration: Males develop stronger color and presence with maturity; females and juveniles remain more subdued. Body Shape: Large, elongated hap body built for open swimming and predatory feeding. Origin and Habitat Native Region: Lake Malawi, with recorded localities including Itungi, Liuli Bay, and Mdowa. Natural Habitat: Sandy habitats, often in open areas with little or no rock cover. Distribution: Lake Malawi, mainly the central and northern parts of the lake. Behavior and Temperament Temperament: Mildly aggressive. Social Behavior: Best with large haps and robust peacocks in a spacious aquarium. Aquarium Care Tank Size: A 180 gallon aquarium or larger is recommended for long-term adult care.
