These plant are rhizome plants, meaning they do not do well when planted, they do best when attached to a surface vs. being buried. A neat trick you can do is get a plant weight (the ones used to hold stem plants together), cut a little piece of it, and use super glue to glue the roots/rhizome to the weight. You can also use thread, fishing line, or super glue as a way to attach it to a surface.
