Roots can go into substrate; the rhizome cannot. Buried, it rots — the most common way Buce is lost. Tie or glue it to hardscape with the rhizome exposed. Expect some melt in the first two weeks. Buce is grown emersed and sheds its emersed leaves on transition. The rhizome stays alive and pushes new leaves — don't throw it out. Keep the light moderate. Buce grows too slowly to outpace algae, so a bright spot means algae on the leaves faster than the plant replaces them. Color comes with time, not fertilizer. Blues and purples deepen over months as the plant settles; a freshly shipped Buce always looks greener than the photo. Divide by cutting the rhizome between leaf nodes, keeping at least three leaves per section. Farm-raised, not wild-collected.
