They can be identified easily in the landscape by their rounded canopies that are covered in palm-shaped bright green leaves that change to yellow (orange-red sometimes) in autumn. Fragrant, tower-like chartreuse flowers appear mid-spring and eventually lead to the glossy brown fruit that most are familiar with. Ohio buckeyes do best in moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Trees benefit from a thick layer of mulch as leaves can scorch during summer months in dry conditions.
