In early summer it produces masses of small, scented, lilac‑purple flowers along the previous year’s wood, providing a superb feature in a sunny border and valuable forage for pollinators. Best in full sun and fertile, well‑drained soil; prune lightly after flowering to maintain its elegant shape. In Irish gardens it typically reaches around 3–4m over time.
