Chicago's South Side produced no fiercer electric blues than what Buddy Guy was laying down in the late '70s, and *Stone Crazy* captures him at his most uninhibited, recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1979. By the time Alligator reissued this set in 1990, a generation of rock guitarists, Hendrix and Clapton among them, had already cited Guy as a primary influence, yet he remained criminally underappreciated outside hardcore blues circles.
