In 1983, Buddy Baker drove the Number 21 Valvoline Ford Thunderbird in 21 races and finished the NASCAR Winston Cup season with one win, one pole position, five top fives and 12 top 10 finishes. He ended the season ranked 21st in the NASCAR Winston Cup championship point standings.
