Coconut oil has become a popular product for dogs, and can be used topically, or as a food supplement. So why is it so good? Coconut Oil comes from the meat of the coconut, which contains saturated fats. These saturated fats (MCTs) are often found in kernel oil, butter, and milk. All which are great for the skin and coat. MCTs are fatty acids which are often considered as ‘good’ fat; these fats, when consumed in moderation, can have some great benefits for our four-legged friends. Well, there are some studies that show coconut oil, when consumed in moderation, can reduce skin inflammation, it can also aid in battling fungi, support healthy brain function, and may help to lower cholesterol. Not only this, but coconut oil can also aid soothe hot spots, itchy, dry skin, and dry and cracked paws when applied topically. It can also make an ideal conditioner, so if your pet is prone to tangles and matts, you could work coconut oil into the coat to aid in their removal.
