Combo Breakdown If you're looking for a versatile electric setup that’s easy to use but still packs plenty of power, this combo is a great place to start. The Shimano Plays 3000A sits at the heart of the setup and is a really popular electric reel for anglers stepping into electric fishing. Powered by Shimano’s high-torque MUTEKI motor, it delivers plenty of winding strength when you hook something decent, while still being simple and comfortable to operate. With PE6 300m line capacity, it has more than enough capacity for reef fishing, deeper drops or hauling heavier rigs back from the bottom without wearing yourself out. We’ve matched it with the Shimano Status Elite Deep Drop 6'10" PE3–6 rod, which pairs perfectly with compact electric reels like the Plays 3000A. Built on a strong carbon composite blank combining E-Glass and graphite, the rod has the backbone needed to handle solid fish while still maintaining the sensitivity to detect bites when fishing deeper reefs or structure. To complete the setup, it’s spooled with 500m of Daiwa J-Braid x8 40lb Multi-Colour, which is ideal for this style of offshore fishing. The 8-strand braid provides excellent strength and smooth performance through the guides, while the colour changes help anglers easily track how much line is out when fishing different depths. Overall this combo is a great all-round electric setup for targeting species like snapper, pearl perch, kingfish and other reef fish, whether you're fishing shallow reefs or working deeper offshore ground. Electric reels like this take the strain out of winding heavy rigs all day, making them perfect for older anglers, anyone dealing with shoulder or arm injuries, or anglers who simply want to let the reel do the hard work while they focus on catching fish.
