Burlybed Light Extra – Treated Rape Straw BeddingLight Extra is Burlybed's oilseed rape straw bedding with the eucalyptus and aloe vera treatment added. The straw comes from British Farm Assured farms and is shredded and double dust extracted on the farm at St Mabyn in Cornwall before it is baled, which is where the difference between a processed bedding and loose straw actually lies. The treatment is the reason to choose Light Extra over plain Light. Burlybed describe it as a formulation of naturally antiseptic eucalyptus and soothing aloe vera, which helps combat and mask odours and acts as a deterrent to horses tempted to eat their bed. For a greedy pony on a straw bed, that last point is the whole argument.Performance & Benefits 100% UK-grown oilseed rape straw from British Farm Assured farms. Eucalyptus and aloe vera formulation, which Burlybed say deters bed-eating and masks odours. Double dust extracted during processing. Burlybed are careful about the claim: they say they would never claim to be 100% dust free, only that they work to keep dust content low. Chop size designed to fall through a fork, which cuts wastage at mucking out. Free draining, so wet passes through to the base and the surface stays usable. Packed in low density polyethylene, the same material as a supermarket bag for life, made from one third recycled content and 100% recyclable. Suitable For Horses and ponies on a deep bed in a standard stable. Horses that eat a plain straw bed and need the deterrent treatment. Yards wanting a bedding that rots down and can go straight on the land. Owners who want low dust without moving to shavings or pellets. Not the choice if you specifically want an untreated, unscented bed — plain Burlybed Light is the same straw without the eucalyptus and aloe. How to Use In an average 12ft by 12ft stable, use 4 to 6 bales to set up a bed. Top up when necessary rather than to a schedule. Build a deep bed so wet drains to the base and the surface stays dry. Skip out daily and lift the wet from the base as it builds. Recycle the empty bags with carrier bags at a supermarket collection point.
