The previous year she was bartending and involved in community activism, including a trip to support the Indigenous resistance at Standing Rock. In Congress AOC has distinguished herself as a true champion for working people and social transformation. Her savvy use of social media has gained her widespread attention and her thoughtful, strategic approach to serving in Congress as a representative of peoples' movements has increased her credibility and standing. Of course, the party establishment tries to keep her at arm's length, and she's a target of right-wing hatred.
