The speedometer cable (RTC3484) transmits rotational drive from the gearbox output to the speedometer head, enabling accurate vehicle speed measurement. On Series Land Rovers, a wo rn or kinked cable typically presents as an erratic or non-functioning speedometer needle, and in some cases an audible squeaking from behind the instrument panel. Correct cable length and end-fitting type are critical, as an incorrect cable will not seat properly at either the gearbox drive or the instrument head.
