The Grafted Cactus – Deep Red, commonly known as a Moon Cactus (Gymnocalycium mihanovichii var. ‘Hibotan’), is an eye-catching, colourful cactus with a vivid, deep red top grafted onto a green rootstock. The red "ball" on top is a chlorophyll-deficient cactus that relies on the rootstock for nutrients. With its bold, vibrant colour and charming globular shape, this grafted cactus is a perfect addition to succulent collections, windowsills, or as a unique gift plant. Compact and easy to care for, it adds a pop of bright colour to any indoor space. Characteristics: Striking deep red, rounded cactus top (scion) with small, soft spines. Grafted onto a sturdy green cactus base (rootstock). Compact size, usually growing 8-12 cm in height. Excellent for small pots, terrariums, or windowsill displays. May produce tiny, soft pink or white flowers under the right conditions. Care Tips: Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct, harsh sunlight which can scorch the vibrant top. Watering: Water moderately, allowing soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering during winter. Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Good drainage is essential. Temperature: Best grown in warm, indoor environments. Protect from cold drafts and frost. Fertilizing: Feed with diluted cactus fertilizer once a month during the growing season. Propagation: Cannot be propagated from offsets due to the graft; new plants are created by grafting scions onto rootstocks.
