The caduceus is an ancient symbol. In Greek mythology, it’s the staff that Hermes carried. It shows two serpents entwined around a magic wand, surmounted by a set of beautiful wing s. It was the basis for the astrological symbol that represented the planet Mercury in Antiquity, and thereby also represents the chemical of the same name.
