Stacked, hollow ceramic forms inspired by the ancient tradition of stacking stones. Stacking stones is a practice observed around the world and across time – whether as a form of wayfinding, meditation, devotion, or self-expression. It’s intuitive and relatable: the act of creating something out of the materials available and a way to interact with a found environment. Reflective of Vicky’s ceramic practice, creating them is a meditation and her creative outlet. These cairns call out to the people and places that her work connects to. Each ‘stone’ is hand-thrown on the pottery wheel and then manipulated and assembled. They are organic and irregular in shape with experimental surface textures. Different techniques are applied, including under-glazes, glazes, and carving to create contrast and tension in the piece. Atop each stack is a vessel, inviting a variety of uses in the home or to stand alone as a decorative object. 9” wide x 17” high
