Calderona figs have around shape and smooth black skin that makes them resemble tiny cauldrons, hence their Spanish name of that meaning. The variety, originally from Mallorca, was said to be a favorite of famed fig grower Montserrat Pons. That is no surprise, because the plants are highly productive, have good resistance to rains, and have a closed ostiole. Calderona produces medium to large dark red fruit with a taste that has been described as jammy, tropical, and sweet, with very little seed crunch. Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December): We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March. **All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees. Rooted Cuttings(Spring): We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span.
