Calhoun Sweet is an extremely rare watermelon variety developed by the now-closed Calhoun Research Station in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana. Thought to have been lost after the statio n closed in 2011, the variety was rediscovered thanks to a fortuitous presentation by legendary seed saver John Coykendall, some diligent detective work by LSU horticulturalist Kerry Heafner, and the dedicated stewardship of one Lincoln Parish farmer. Plants produce large, round, dark-green melons with red interiors that are dripping with a refreshing, super-sweet flavor. Arguably the sweetest watermelon we've tried. Our children ate most of a melon in one sitting and their behavior afterwards would attest to the high sugar content of this variety. Plants resistant to Fusarium wilt. 25 seeds per packet.
