The CalmPort mouthpiece shape encourages free movement of the tongue and redistributes pressure away from the center of the tongue that many bits with classic link designs create. The cannons of the bit move independently to create a precision in communication between the rider and the horse. The key departure of this design from the CalmBlue, CalmRide and CalmGreen designs in our line up lie in the addition of a small port for extra tongue relief. Therefore this bit offers the most tongue relief in our barrel link series. This mouthpiece is made of sweet iron which releases a sweet taste as it gets in contact with saliva that many horses prefer. Eggbutt cheekpieces are often preferred by young horses or those who require more stability in mouth than loose ring bits offer. Mouthpiece thickness: 10mm Please note that sweet iron bits oxidise naturally and the blue parts will over time develop a thin layer of rust and turn brown/grey. This is by design as the "rust" is what creates the taste so many horses love. Show more
