The CFE series is the eccentric type: an eccentric collar on the stud lets you turn the stud to set the outer ring position and spread the load evenly across the outer ring surface, with an eccentricity of 0.4 to 1.5 mm across the range. A cam follower is a bearing with a stud, with needle rollers inside a thick-walled outer ring. The outer ring rotates and runs directly on the mating track (cam guide surface), so cam followers suit cam mechanisms and linear motions and are used in machine tools, industrial robots, electronic devices and office automation (OA) equipment. In the part number, the number is the stud size (thread diameter G) in mm; B is the hexagon hole in the stud head, V is the full complement type (no V is with cage), UU is the sealed type (no UU is the shield type), and R is the crowned outer ring (no R is cylindrical). Selecting the right option Pick the outside diameter of the outer ring (dimension D, in mm) in the options above: the stud size, thread and ratings follow from the model number shown in the Model Details. All sizes on this page are stud types with a hexagon hole in the stud head and full complement rollers. Some stud sizes come with more than one outer ring, so check the diameter against your cam track: 47 mm OD and 52 mm OD (CFE20-1VBUUR and CFE20VBUUR). The thread diameter G is the size that goes into your mounting hole. The eccentric collar (outside diameter de in the Model Details) sits in the hole, so the hole must also take the collar, and its length must be at least dimension S (B2 - G1 + 0.5 mm), which is worked out for each model in the Model Details. This page is the crowned outer ring type (R in the part number). The crowned ring is effective in moderating the edge load caused by mounting errors, and it is the type to use if the outer ring does not make good contact with the mating running surface. Every model here is the full complement type, which is suited to heavy loads at low speed rotations. Fitting and use Make the centre axis of the mounting hole perpendicular to the direction of travel and match the stud shoulder accurately with the seating surface given by dimension f (min.) in the Model Details. Keep the chamfer on the mounting hole as small as possible (C0.5 or so), and do not hit the flange head directly with a hammer, because that can lead to irregular rotation or cracking. The eccentric type is mounted with the mark on the stud head as the reference position. Turn the stud with a screwdriver or hex key in the hexagon hole to adjust the outer ring position, then fix it with a nut and spring washer; do not exceed the maximum tightening torque. Where shock loads are applied and the adjusted eccentricity has to be kept, a dowel pin through the housing, stud and eccentric collar is recommended (not practical for studs under 8 mm). The mark on the flange head shows the oil hole position on the raceway: keep the oil hole out of the loading zone. The recommended mounting hole tolerance for the stud is H7. Lubrication: the models on this page are prepacked with grease. Track capacity is the load that can be applied continuously on a steel cam guide surface of 40 HRC without deforming or indenting it. For a different hardness it is multiplied by the track capacity factor (0.45 at 30 HRC): ask AIMS if you need the factor for your guide surface.
