They spent a decade releasing under a string of aliases - The Chosen Few, Pawn Shop, Whelan & Di Scala, Wheels & Disco - before settling on CamelPhat in 2010, initially performing in wrestling masks so that people would "judge the music and not us". Everything changed with "Cola" in 2017. The Elderbrook collaboration, released on Defected, reached number three on the UK Dance Chart, topped the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording. "Panic Room" with Au/Ra and "Breathe" with Cristoph followed, and the pair signed to RCA at the end of 2018. Their debut album Dark Matter arrived in 2020, a sprawling record that pulled in Jake Bugg, Noel Gallagher, Foals and Yannis Philippakis. In 2021 they launched their own label, When Stars Align, and their second album Spiritual Milk landed in September 2023 - a two-halves record split between club material and something closer to alternative songwriting. On the road they are as likely to be found playing a three-hour Ibiza set at Pacha or Ushuaia as a festival slot, and their live schedule takes in Creamfields, Tomorrowland, Ultra, EDC, Awakenings, Zamna and The Warehouse Project. The Liverpool roots run deep - Whelan and Di Scala have owned the city's Mansion nightclub since 2011.
