HAY's ingenious Can Sofa has been reimagined in a new range of fabrics and frame finishes. The most flat-packed of all our sofas; Can comes in 4 individual boxes and is guaranteed to fit through the tightest corridors or up the windiest staircases. With Can you can enjoy a beautiful and comfortable sofa in any space. Also available in 1-Seater and 3-Seater versions. With the Can sofa, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are seeking to go beyond the creation of a practical, elegant and comfortable design. The intention is to reinvigorate the whole idea of the sofa, from something inherently complicated to something simple, relaxed and accessible. The sofa comes apart into separate sections and is assembled at home from three basic elements – frame, cover and cushions. The cushion covers may be removed from all sections for dry cleaning. Steel tube legs and crossbars are assembled to hold a bent sheet metal seat using screws and spring clips. The canvas is added to the steel frame during assembly, tightened and kept in place by plastic profiles and a cotton strap, which are sewn onto the canvas. Cushions with anti-slip material on the backside of the seat are placed inside the steel frame. You can view the assembly process in the video below.
