A 19th-century English antique candle box formed from a tin sheet, also known as "toleware". With two wall brackets and a lift-up lid (decorated with repoussé-worked linear decorat ion), which opens to reveal an interior void of any fittings. The hasp to the lid still functions. The box retains a significant amount of original paint on the external surfaces. This has gained a wonderful time-worn appearance.
