The Barkandji Wiimpatja (people) have always lived along the river and receive their name from the Barka. The significance of this river cannot be overstated, as it sustains the region and supports an ecosystem far beyond its physical place. Unfortunately, its health has been declining rapidly due to climate change, mismanagement, and unsustainable agricultural practices. The Barkindji Peoples and many along the river implore you to meet the river and help protect its rights, so we can all have a better tomorrow.
