That's not a small thing to say. This One-Size cover runs quite large. It can work but it is quite big on a 12 pound baby. It fits well beginning at around 4 or 5 months old or 14+ pounds at the smallest rise setting. It may fit to 40 pounds at the largest setting. The cover is designed for both tucking a diaper under the front and back flap or using it over a fitted diaper. The flap is nice to help hold a trifolded diaper in place and it also keeps the PUL away from baby since the knit fabric is there on the flaps. But just because it has flaps doesn't mean you have to use them. As a matter of fact, pinning or spreading out the cotton inside does give better coverage, but if you like trifolding and using the flaps - go for it. The shape is roomy enough to use this over fitted diapers or fastened diapers of any kind. In a way, having the flaps there is the best of both worlds. The part of the inside of the cover that is most likely to touch baby's skin is where the flap is, so that's nice. Yet since it doesn't have that fabric in the wet zone, it doesn't pick up odors so you can often re-use the same cover through multiple diaper changes. It's one-size fits most adjustable - like many around, but the shape of each brand or kind are different (well, for the many names of some imported ones, they are pretty much the same, but for the USA-made ones, each brand really is a unique shape and design). This cover is more roomy inside than Smart Bottoms Too Smart and overall, it is slightly larger. It's nice to have options to choose what style, shape and fit are best for you. The roomier-inside fit is really nice for adding extra absorbency for naps and nighttime, or for anytime.
