Sam Wilton shoots his lover's irate husband and needs to get out of South America in a hurry. He acquires a stolen passport and passage on the Banos, a tramp freighter set to sail for the States under the command of it's notorious skipper, "Captain Scarface." What Wilton has no way of knowing is that Scarface and his cutthroat crew of communist saboteurs have an atom bomb loaded aboard.
