Wild caught mandarins are poor aquarium inhabitants and an ove rwhelming number die in the aquarium trade each year even in ideal conditions. Since mandarins are a cryptic species in the wild often hiding in cervices or rockwork many are captured using needle spear guns or cyanide, both of which are harmful for the animal.
