In the first year of baby's life, a parent spends an average of 1800 hours of breast or chest feeding -almost equivalent to a full-time job. For her exhibition 'Production ', Scott ish ceramicist Cara Guthrie made 1800 hand-thrown porcelain cups to symbolise every one of those hours. Each Cup is numbered, representing one hour out of 18000, a shrine to the invisible labour of sustaining a new life, no matter how a baby is fed. Cara chose Amma Birth Companions as the beneficiary of this work, in recognition of the families we support who face the greatest barriers to care.
