The Loewen Family has farmed the Maximin Klosterlay site since the acquired it during the reign of Napoleon in 1805. It is now run by Christopher Loewen and his father Karl-Joseph, and more than half of their vines are ungrafted, very old vines, from 60 to 120 years old. Renowned for being a more traditional hands-off approach to Mosel Riesling. Grapes are pressed whole cluster, with the juice being oxidized prior to fermentation. The juice is vinified in traditional 1000L fuder barrels, before aging on the full lees. Sleek and vibrant with concentrated white peach, apricot, honey, wet stone and wildflowers. Racy acidity typical of the Mosel drives to a long mineral-driven finish. 12.0% ABV Show more
