Riven means splitting out the material, rather than sawn. The bottom is pine and the top board is quartered oak. The lid is held in place with snipe hinges. Endless or rope banded carving surround carved flower rosettes. Painted with a base of green and a second coat of black. oil/varnish finish with wax.
