A fascinating and poignant piece of funeral and industrial history, this Vintage Casket Crank was an essential component in the final preparation of traditional coffins and caskets. This key was used to operate the internal mechanism of the casket, primarily to lower the adjustable bed or to secure the final locking mechanism of the lid before burial. Made of a durable, hard plastic or early synthetic material, the key features a decorative, sculpted handle with an elegant, leaf or flame motif, adding a touch of period style to its utilitarian function. The crank arm extends to a square shaft designed to engage the internal mechanisms. This item is sought after by collectors of mortuary artifacts, historical tools, and unique memorabilia, serving as a quiet yet powerful reminder of past funeral customs. It makes a compelling and unique display item for a curiosity cabinet or a dark academia collection.
