Take the guesswork out of saddle fit. Have a horse that’s hard to fit? Our Alamo Horse Casting Kit allows you to create a physical mold of your horse’s back from home, giving a saddle maker a more individualized representation of your horse’s shape when determining saddle tree fit. Think of it as sending your horse’s back to the saddle shop — without having to haul your horse anywhere. Especially Helpful For: Hard-to-fit horses Wide or narrow-backed horses Horses with unique back shapes or asymmetry Riders unsure which saddle tree configuration to choose Customers ordering a custom or made-to-order saddle remotely What’s Included Plaster casting blanket Casting template Necessary casting tools Fitting blanket Step-by-step instructional video Click here to watch it now How It Works 1. Cast Your HorseFollow the instructional video to create a physical mold of your horse’s back. The casting process takes approximately 30–45 minutes. During that time, your horse will need to stand calmly while the casting material is placed, shaped, and allowed to mold and dry enough to be removed properly. 2. Send the Completed Cast to Your Saddle MakerYour completed cast can be sent to Alamo Saddlery or the saddle maker of your choice. You are not required to purchase an Alamo saddle. 3. Use the Cast as a Saddle-Fitting ToolThe cast provides the saddle maker with a physical representation of your horse’s back to help determine an appropriate tree and saddle configuration. Is This Right for My Horse? Because the casting process requires your horse to stand quietly for approximately 30–45 minutes, this may not be the best option for horses that are unable to stand still comfortably for that amount of time. If your horse is very young, nervous, reactive, uncomfortable with being handled around the back and sides, or has difficulty standing quietly, we recommend considering whether the casting process is appropriate before ordering. For the best results, the horse should be calm, safely handled, and comfortable standing while the cast is applied and allowed to form. Important to Know A casting is made specifically from one horse at one point in time. Because horses can change shape due to age, growth, conditioning, weight gain or loss, muscle development, injury, or changes in workload, the cast may no longer accurately represent your horse if their body changes significantly. For that reason, a cast should not be considered a permanent fit for every horse or for the lifetime of one horse. If your horse changes considerably, a new casting may be recommended. Choose Alamo & Receive a $250 Saddle Credit Your casting belongs to you and can be used with any saddle maker you choose. However, if you decide to have Alamo Saddlery build your saddle, we’ll apply a $250 credit toward your qualifying saddle order. That means you can use the casting process to learn more about your horse’s fit needs without being locked into one saddle maker — and if you choose Alamo, most of the cost of your casting kit comes right back to you toward your saddle. One Horse. One Individual Fit. Every horse is different. This kit gives your saddle maker another tool to better understand yours.
