Cedar planks are great for the outdoors, they do not rot and are flea deterrent. The standard planks are a milled 1" thick by either 8" or 12" wide. Milled wood is slightly smaller than the measurements given. Wood for the floor does not require hardware and lays securely in place. Planks only, no hardware needed. Easily lays in place with an estimated gap of 1/2" between each plank. 1"x8" cedar is used for the floor. When the floor dimension requires it, other widths of cedar may be used. 8" wood is nominal 1x8 = Actual size is 7.25" x 0.875" Habitat Haven's cedar floor is a "floating" floor made of individual planks. They are meant to be placed inside the enclosure and can easily be removed for cleaning or overwintering. Between each board, there should be a gap of approximately 1/2" which allows for proper water drainage, as well as expansion caused by changes in weather and humidity. Show more
