Frequently asked question: Can my Opal go in water? Yes. All solid Australian Opals CAN go into water. They are not porous. Australian Opal are the most durable of all the Opals. Please don't confuse other Opal with Australian Opal. The only time you need to be careful of submerging Australian Opal in water is when they are doublets and triplets because of the glue used to hold the slice of Opal onto the backing.
