Refusing everto do what was expected or demanded, the band constantlychanged musical direction, always brought in surprisinginfluences, and kept people guessing as to where they mightventure next. Their catalogue of albums is formidable andunmatched. Each is not only unique, but part of an entiretapestry that only now can be appreciated for being aremarkable part of music history. Despite, or maybe becauseof, constant turmoil on so many fronts, Celtic Frost achievedan artistic level few others would even have dared to dreamof aspiring towards. They climbed high because they werenever afraid to fall. Which is why the band are now rightlyregarded as icons, and iconoclasts. Emperor's Return is the second release by the Swiss extrememetal band Celtic Frost. It was released in 1985 as anextended play and was their first record featuring Americandrummer Reid Cruickshank (a.k.a.Reed St. Mark). Theband's bleak publicity photographs from this period had aninfluence on the fashion and style of the developing blackmetal genre.
