The glazes used on this piece are custom mixed made for firing in a gas kiln at high temperatures with a reduction atmosphere. I finish the glaze in a semi-matte so it is easier to use as a serving dish - this also makes the dish lightweight and comfortable to hold. Stoneware fired at high temperatures are known to be very durable - with proper care, this piece can last for centuries. *This piece is dishwasher safe and can be warmed in the oven up to around 350 degrees. It is not designed for stovetop use. This piece is approved for microwave use -- NOTE: extended microwave use (over many decades) on ceramic items with high power settings can cause the piece to become dry or brittle. These are great serving pieces made with love and artistry.
