A novel salt and pepper set made in ceramic. This wonderful and whimsical pair fo condiment holders is bright, fun and well made. They are designed to take on the appearance of classic salt and pepper packaging that would be found at any grocery store. they very much have a feel of the Pop Art movement that was well under way at the time with Artist such as Warhol appropriating every day household items, and transforming them into art. They are both signed on the base for "Betty St. John", made for Shafford, in Japan. They were featured in the New York Times in 1979, after their launch on the "Home Beat" section, such was their appeal at the time of their launch. The condition of the pieces appear unused, and are both fully signed on the base, including a paper sticker for Shafford, Japan. Shafford, A Japanese based ceramic company began to import items into the US in the late 1940's all the way to the early 1980's. They made an extensive line of home goods, and dinnerware. Made in Japan, in 1979.
