Cerridwen is the Welsh goddess of the cauldron, keeper of the brew of inspiration and wisdom, and one of the great figures of transformation in Celtic myth. In her most famous tale she tends a cauldron for a year and a day to brew Awen, the gift of poetic and prophetic inspiration, and the story that follows, of pursuit, shape-shifting, and rebirth, makes her a goddess of profound change. This statue shows her kneeling beside that magical cauldron. Standing 8 1/2 inches in an earthy terracotta finish, she makes a grounding focal point for transformation, wisdom, and the deep work of inspiration. Key Features The Welsh goddess of the cauldron. In the tale told of her, she brews a potion for a year and a day to grant wisdom and inspiration to her son, but the first three drops fall instead on the servant boy Gwion Bach. What follows is one of myth's great transformation chases: the two shape-shift through animals and elements until Gwion, swallowed by Cerridwen in the form of a hen eating grain, is reborn from her nine months later as Taliesin, the greatest of poets. Her cauldron has become a central symbol of Awen, the flowing inspiration of the poet and seer, and of death and rebirth. On a modern altar, Cerridwen is honored for transformation and rebirth, for wisdom, and for poetic and creative inspiration. Witches and Druids often work with her cauldron as a symbol of the deep, sometimes difficult changes that remake us, and of the inspiration that is won through them. Honor her as the goddess of the cauldron she is, with respect for the living Welsh and Celtic tradition she belongs to.
