Quick Facts: ABV: 40% | Origin: Croatia | Style: Wine Brandy (Vinjak) | Distillery: Badel 1862 Production & Heritage Badel 1862 is one of Croatia's oldest and most prominent spirits producers, with roots stretching back to the mid-19th century. Cezar was developed in 1970 following extensive research, using a distillation process modeled on the methods employed in France's Cognac region. The brandy is made entirely from 100% wine distillate, with multiple high-quality distillates carefully selected during the winemaking process, then blended to achieve a consistent, approachable character that distinguishes it from harsher industrial brandies in the region. Tasting Notes Aroma: Dried fruits — particularly raisin and fig — emerge first, followed by soft vanilla and a backdrop of gentle oak. The nose is warm and inviting without being overly complex. Taste: The palate opens with a mellow sweetness driven by raisin and honey. At mid-palate, gentle baking spice and a touch of vanilla round out the profile. The overall impression is smooth and well-balanced, leaning toward the sweeter, more accessible end of the brandy spectrum. Finish: Medium in length with a soft, mellow texture. Lingering warmth carries faint notes of dried fruit and light oak to a clean conclusion. How to Drink Cezar Brandy Cezar drinks comfortably neat at room temperature or with a single ice cube to open up the dried fruit and vanilla notes. It also works well in cocktails that call for a fruit-forward, smooth grape brandy. Brandy Sour — The honey and raisin sweetness provides a natural counterpoint to fresh lemon juice without needing excessive sugar. Sidecar — Cezar's soft vanilla and dried fruit qualities complement Cointreau and citrus in a classic ratio. Brandy & Ginger — A simple highball where the gentle spice notes in the brandy harmonize with ginger ale for an easy, refreshing serve. Cezar positions as an accessible, value-tier wine brandy that delivers quality well above its price point, making it a strong everyday option for brandy drinkers and an economical base for cocktails. Why Cezar Brandy? Cezar's core distinction lies in its production from 100% wine distillate using a process modeled on French cognac methodology — a deliberate quality choice made by Badel 1862 when the brand launched in 1970. Over five decades, it has grown into a synonym for Croatian wine brandy across Eastern European markets. The 1-liter format adds practical value for regular enjoyment. For anyone exploring grape brandies beyond the French and Spanish mainstream, Cezar represents one of the most established and accessible entry points from the Balkans.
