A 1-5 or 1-4 ratio is standard for mushrooms and herbs. There are times when lower menstruum to herb ratios can be beneficial, although many times it is counter productive, and unfortunately it is being used as a marketing tactic. The standard 1-5, 1-4 higher alcohol ratios have stood the test of time and are usually needed to properly extract the herb. The alcohol can only hold so much material before it is saturated. At the saturation point, you need more alcohol to continue pulling out the plant material . So in short, lower ratios will not always mean a superior product.
