The name 'Bannockburn' resonates well beyond our shores and is synonymous with exemplary Australian cool-climate vine-growing and winemaking techniques. Stuart Hooper established the winery on the Moorabool Valley in the 1970s and first planted Shiraz. Against the odds, he also planted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in an era when the entire world tried to emulate Bordeaux and its wine. Therefore, their 'Serre' vineyard remains the oldest close-planted vineyard in Australia. The vineyards are organically farmed and follow the principles of less is more. Today, the daughters are still running the Estate with the support of Matt Holmes as Chief Winemaker and Lucas Grigsby in the vineyards. It is without saying all wines made at Bannockburn are estate-grown. The 2021 Chardonnay is produced with fruits from across the Estate: Oliver Tree Hill, Winery Block, Stuart Block & Kelly Lane; naturally fermented and aged in barrels for a year before bottling.
