The seventh edition is a new book, produced in response to the newly re-articulated Course and Exam Description (CED) curriculum introduced by the College Board in Fall 2019. The authors, David Hostage, Patsy Mueller, and Roger Kugel, present thirteen chapters, each featuring a clear and concise review of the topics being covered. Each chapter ends with twenty-five multiple-choice questions in the current exam format, each with four possible options as answers. Approximately half of the multiple-choice questions are presented in item sets. Each chapter also has several multi-part free-response questions about that topic in the new style, most chapters with two long and two short items. The book includes four complete sample examinations in the new exam format, an increase of one exam from the previous edition. There is a continuation of an innovative new feature from the sixth edition. A Semester I Examination is designed to cover the first four Units of the new curriculum, perfect for a midyear review. A Semester 2 Examination covers Units 59 to allow testing of those more-advanced topics. These two Semester Examinations may be combined with minor modification to form a fifth Sample Examination. The seventh edition contains hundreds of multiple-choice questions and dozens of free-response and equation questions. All of the questions are newly developed, with many specifically designed to address and reinforce both the inquiry approach as well as the rigor in the totality of AP Chemistry concepts. Separate Student Answer Keys for the multiple-choice questions are included with each book. Also available separately is the Student's Solution Manual. It describes the correct solution for each free-response and multiple-choice item, as well as explaining many of the common errors and misconceptions. The SSM also includes a clever code to designate the Unit, Topic, and Learning Objective (UTLO) describing each question. Organic molecules may still be incorporated into chapters where bonding and interparticle forces are examined, but the naming of the molecule or identifying its functional group is not required. This is similar to the treatment of organic molecules that appear in recent AP exams. The same treatment is also applied to the area of descriptive chemistry, where the color of a precipitate may be given, but knowing the color of the precipitate is not needed to analyze its formula. Designed to augment the text is the STUDENT'S SOLUTIONS MANUAL TO ACCOMPANY MULTIPLE‑CHOICE AND FREE‑RESPONSE QUESTIONS IN PREPARATION FOR THE AP CHEMISTRY EXAMINATIONsupplementing the question book by providing a step-by-step solution and discussion of common incorrect responses for the multiple-choice and free-response questions.
