Carex cherokeensis Cherokee sedge, is indigenous to the southeastern and south-central regions of the United States. This plant develops clusters of fine-textured, narrow, grass-like leaves that are a deep green and gradually spread. Although the greenish-white flowers that emerge in spring are not very striking, the wheat-like seed spikes that appear in autumn provide additional visual appeal. To cultivate Cherokee sedge, select medium to wet soils in full sun or partial shade. This plant flourishes in moist environments but also adapts well to average garden soil. In late winter, trim the foliage down to ground level and dispose of it accordingly.
