Smooth, naturally rich, and pleasantly sweet, Alce Nero Organic Chestnut Cream is made with chestnuts grown in Italy. Its creamy texture and distinctive chestnut flavor make it delicious spread on spelt bread, pancakes, or toast, or enjoyed as an addition to porridge and simple desserts. The cream contains 62% chestnuts and is made without added pectin. Why Chestnuts? Chestnuts are quite different from most other nuts. They are naturally low in fat and provide carbohydrates for energy, along with fiber and naturally occurring nutrients. Their mild sweetness, soft texture, and comforting flavor have made chestnuts a valued traditional food for centuries. Chestnuts also hold a special place in the nutritional teachings of St. Hildegard of Bingen, who regarded the chestnut tree and its fruit very highly. St. Hildegard on the Chestnut Tree “The chestnut tree is very hot but has great power mixed with that heat. It symbolizes discretion. The virtue in it, and its fruit, is useful against all infirmity in a human.” More information can be found in Physica by St. Hildegard of Bingen.
