Clos duTue-Boeuf is the natural wine project of brothers Jean-Marie and Thierry Puzelat, who began producing wines in Cheverny since the early 1990s, when they, along with other producers like Yvon Metras, Dard & Ribo, and Marcel Richaud were at the heart of the movement in the Loire Valley. Part of what makes them so unique is that they grow and farm an incredible array of varieties, some of which are rarely found in the Loire. Thierry Puzelat took over the project fully at his brothers retirement in 2018, and his 'La Caillère' Rouge is a blend of Pinot Noir with a splash of Gamay in the mix, harvested from the original Clos du Tue-Boeuf property. Fermented whole-cluster, with a semi-carbonic maceration, the wine was matured in spent Burgundy barrels and 400 L demi-muids. It is bottled unfiltered, with only the a micro-dose of SO2 added at bottling. A fresh, wild red with cranberry and raspberry with herbs like dill and mint, and a bit of funkiness. The wine will definitely benefit from a decant prior to enjoyment. 12.43% ABV
