Thirty years ago, 80 percent of people in China lived in rural areas. Today, more than half the Chinese population lives in urban areas. Migrant workers fuel China's burgeoning economy, but at the cost of family life as millions leave loved ones behind in the villages. Some have found their fortunes; others become trapped and marginalized as the urban poor. Rapid modernization also brings social ills such as divorce, abortion, prostitution and the like. China's leaders and the Chinese church are facing unprecedented challenges as new strata of society emerge-the migrant workers, the aging, the intellectuals, the students and more. Believers in China need God's wisdom, strength and the local church's support to stand firm in their faith and be the salt and light to the rest of the nation. Will you pray for China's cities?
