This early 19th century heirloom chintz and floral quilt boasts masterful handwork. The original glazing, typical of British cotton textiles of the period, imbues the quilt with a subtle sheen that has gradually become matte. The top is composed of patchworked blocks, and indigo and umber foliage are framed by a trumpeting ripple of florals – olivine to mahogany – embellished with cerulean moments. The outer frame is a panel of block printed organic motifs that introduces shades of amaranth, lapis, ochre and cyan. The integrity of the textile is showcased through its minimal discoloration and pristinely maintained exterior.
